Jesus Restores:

The Power of Agape Love and Our Gospel Calling

In John 21, Jesus challenges Peter's understanding of love by asking,

"Do you love me?" three times.

This wasn't to shame Peter for his past denial but to restore and reaffirm his calling. Jesus uses the term "agape," referring to God's unconditional love, while Peter responds with "phileo," indicating brotherly love. Through this exchange, Jesus emphasizes that Peter must grow in unconditional love to truly shepherd His flock. Jesus' message to Peter, and to us, is clear: to follow Him fully, we must move beyond mere affection and embrace the sacrificial love that mirrors Christ's own.

This passage teaches us that Jesus' love for us is unwavering, even when our love falls short. He doesn't dwell on our failures but invites us to rise and fulfill our purpose. Just as Peter was called back to his mission after returning to fishing, we too are called to leave behind our comfort zones and wholeheartedly follow Christ, trusting in His grace and strength. This love-driven obedience transforms us and enables us to live out the gospel, bringing glory to God in every aspect of our lives.
